Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD) confirmed in Ontario

(From OMNRF release) On September 7th two adult male deer were found dead on a property in London, Ontario and were submitted to the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative (CWHC) for preliminary testing.  On September 22 the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) confirmed Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD). The CWHC also confirmed that both deer were negative for Chronic Wasting Disease. There are no human health concerns from the EHD virus.  If members of the public come across a sick or dead deer, we ask that they report it by calling the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative at 1-866-673-4781 or the Natural Resources Information Centre at 1-800-667-1940. For more info download this EHD Factsheet, prepared by OMNRF.
