A Visit to the Kinghurst Forest Nature Reserve

EVENT FULL!

When: Saturday July 24 at 1:00 pm

Where: Kinghurst Forest Nature Reserve

Chatsworth Twp, Conc 4, approximately 3 km north of Grey Road 25. The parking lot opposite Harrison Lake is small, so may need to park on road.

Registration: Please register with Jim Coles at jcoles@gbtel.ca in advance. We will be limiting the number of participants to 20 people.

Description: Kinghurst Forest Nature Reserve is managed by Ontario Nature. The 370 ha property is a wonderful example of pre-settlement maple beech woodlands with many trees 250 to 300 years old. It is designated an Area of Natural & Scientific Interest (ANSI). In 1997 the Krug Brothers of Chesley donated 242 ha to be maintained in perpetuity by Ontario Nature and additional portions have been added since.

The Hike: This will be a guided hike of no more than 5 km (in & out), past wetlands, through a meadow and into the forest to view nature at it’s finest. Diverse opportunities to view and learn about the birds, insects, plant communities and of course the old growth forest await. A BGWA member – Val Makhouleen and members of Saugeen Nature will be our guides.
