The last of our 5 tree-themed geocaches, which will bring you to a significant yet unknown archaeological site near Southampton, has now been set in place–see listing on geocaching.com. Geocaching is open to anyone with a GPS-enabled device (e.g., GPS unit, most smartphones, some cameras, etc) to join this modern-day treasure hunt activity. BGWA organized Grey-Bruce Tree-O-Caching to bring members and the general public out to see some unique and interesting trees in our area. And for BGWA members we have a big bonus: if you find all 5 geocaches your name will be entered into a draw for a brand new Original Leatherman Sidekick Multi-Tool! Here’s how it works:
- First of all, If you need info on how to play, here is a quick backgrounder GeoCaching101. It is easy to get started, and kids (of all ages) love it… what a great way to use technology to get them outside and active.
- When you find a geocache, you will sign the physical logbook in the geocache container, and subsequently log your find on geocaching.com
- Once you have logged your finds for all 5 Tree-O-Caches, through the geocaching.com site send a message to user “Hikerboy” (who also happens to be your BGWA V-P, Communications Director and Web Guy) letting him know your BGWA registered member name or email.
- You will then receive confirmation you are entered in the members’ prize draw… good luck!
